Naudersberg Castle
Naudersberg was first recorded as the residence of Herr von Nauders in 1239. It was home to a princely court since around 1300, then a castle was built. During the Engadin war under Herzog Siegmund and Kaiser Maximilian 1st, the castle was expanded to include outlying estates, rondelles, round towers and battlements.

Fort Nauders
Fort Nauders was constructed between 1834 and 1840 on the pass over Reschen near to the Medieval Niklasmauer. It’s an imposing five-storey stone rectangle with arrow slits built to block the road to protect the Inntal Valley from possible troop invasions from Lombardy or the Engadin.

Kaiserschützenweg
The revitalised Kaiserschützenweg was built during the First World War and leads from Fort Nauders for around 2km, ascending and descending around 500m in altitude, through the woods to the battlements, passing dilapidated posts and rock caverns big enough to explore. There is an informative memorial on the Kaiserschützen at Fort Nauders.

Historical border control
In 1936-1942, the Reschen border saw comprehensive lines of defence, complete with bunkers, command posts, tanks, barracks and supply roads to offer protection from invasion by Hitler’s Germany. The work was continued under the strictest secrecy even after Italy’s official joining of the Allies.

Altfinstermünz Fortress
A path into the past begins at Fort Nauders! The old road is steep, reaching the Inn at Finstermünz. There is a small chapel, the old toll house and ‘Sigismundseck’ built by Herzog Sigismund, which looks like it’s been stuck to the rock. In the middle of the Inn, there is an old tower with a wooden bridge.
